Housing Board Updates
Chapter Dinners
Reunion brought founder Susan Weishaar (founder) and former president Emma Wahlberg (Delta Mu) together to brainstorm ideas to build sistership and increase the number of chapter meetings at the house.
The result: a monthly chapter dinner at the house prior to the weekly meeting sponsored by alumnae donations. The first few have already been funded, and the estimated cost to host a meal is $100.
Interested in donating? Contact Jillian Palmer (Delta Mu), chapter VP of Finance and the current Housing Director, at jvpalmer@mtu.edu. Share YOUR story with the actives while treating them to a meal!
What’s next for the house? Calling all project managers!
The next BIG project at the house will most likely be replacing the siding and windows.
We are looking for sisters who have project management experience to lead and/or participate in a committee to execute this next BIG house project. This will include defining the project scope, fundraising, vendor selection and all project management steps through construction completion.
As the housing board shared during reunion; the order of magnitude (OOM) quote received from the builder who completed the Lambda Chi rebuild is in excess of $500,000 (over 40 windows and top of the line "Smartside" siding). We are hoping with some experience and creative leadership, we can improve on this number AND hopefully execute this work in 2027.
Please thoughtfully consider investing your time and talent in working on leading this committee. Contact any of the housing board members if interested! (email listed below)
Sisters from the 90's
Interested in getting a bit more involved with the house? The housing board is looking to add a sister from the 90's to the team! We have a goal to have every "decade" represented in the management of the house and currently the '80's are a bit top heavy. The board meets via zoom twice a month for approximately 1 hour; 2025 fall semester meetings are 8:00 ET on the first and third Monday of the month.
It is a great avenue to stay in touch with the active sisters while investing your time and talent in the house that we all love. Please drop a note to tschmiedel@msn.com if you are interested.
Recent Changes
In the Spring of 2024, the actives decided it was time for a refresh in the house! They decided to flip the Chapter Room and Living Room around - and what a difference it made! Check out the new furniture and the nice natural light that comes in, not to mention the perfect views of Mt. Ripley and the Portage. Kudos to the actives for making the most of their space, and continuing to showcase the beauty of our house!
